The Canada Plastics Pact (CPP), along with several other organizations, has launched PRFLEX, an initiative aimed at improving the recovery and recycling rates of flexible plastics from Canadian households. The goal is to increase the use of recycled content in plastic packaging by addressing collection, sorting, and recycling infrastructure challenges. The initiative will assess the current situation, design high-performing systems for films and flexibles, and propose new technologies and processes to increase capture rates and improve sorting. The project will be implemented in four phases, including understanding baseline data, identifying infrastructure gaps, proposing solutions, and applying learnings in partner facilities.
