Half of Canada landfill could have been diverted!

According to the 2022 Solid Waste Stream Composition Study, the total diversion potential from Hartland landfill in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada was measured at 47%, consisting of 23% compost/organics, 15% depot/drop off recycling material, and 9% recycling.
The Capital Regional District, who commissioned the study, has a goal of reducing landfill by about 40% by 2030. This detailed report provides an analysis of the sources and type of waste being produced in the region. With this data, the next step is addressing the problem, though a combination of education, incentives and technology.
